Donal O’Sullivan is Sales Director of Bishops Scientific UK Limited, trading as LabFriend UK. He brings deep technical and commercial experience across chemistry, biochemistry, analytical instrumentation, biological workflows, environmental monitoring, laboratory consumables and scientific equipment supply.
Donal’s career has followed a clear progression from laboratory science into technical sales, laboratory sales management and sales directorship. This combination gives him a practical understanding of both sides of laboratory purchasing: the scientific requirements that determine whether a product is suitable, and the commercial realities that influence availability, pricing, service and repeat supply.
Before co-founding Bishops Scientific UK Limited, Donal spent almost three decades with Carl Stuart Limited, progressing from Technical Sales Specialist to Area Sales Manager, Laboratory Division Sales Manager and Sales Director. Across these roles, he was responsible for developing laboratory sales, managing customer relationships, leading sales teams, supporting supplier partnerships, setting sales targets, improving CRM pipeline management and helping customers select appropriate scientific products and technical solutions.
Donal’s strongest technical foundation is in chemistry. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and earlier qualifications in analytical methods and applied chemistry. His laboratory career began in analytical and industrial chemistry environments, including work in formulation, polymer chemistry, emulsion polymer synthesis, materials characterisation and analytical testing. His hands-on laboratory experience included gas chromatography, HPLC, infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, titrimetric methods, paint and polymer characterisation, controlled formulation work and scale-up activity.
That chemistry background has remained central to Donal’s commercial work. Over his career, he has supported customers with product selection across analytical measurement, chromatography, liquid handling, filtration, sample preparation, laboratory reactors, flow chemistry, rheology, powder rheometry, texture analysis, moisture analysis, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and general laboratory consumables.
Donal also brings substantial experience in biochemistry and biological laboratory workflows. He has been responsible for the sale and support of complex biological equipment and consumables, including bioreactors, single-cell sorting systems, purified water systems, biological buffers, media and supplements. This gives him a strong understanding of how biological laboratories balance technical specification, workflow compatibility, contamination control, repeatability and supply continuity.
A further area of Donal’s expertise is environmental chemistry and water analysis. He has worked with customers involved in municipal drinking water, wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring and field-based analytical measurement. His experience ranges from handheld multiparameter instruments through to process monitoring installations and remote monitoring systems deployed across river basins and tributary networks. This gives him practical insight into both laboratory-based and field-deployed measurement requirements.
At LabFriend UK, Donal’s role is focused on helping customers make better purchasing decisions across routine consumables, technical products and specialist laboratory workflows. His value lies in connecting product choice to real-world laboratory use: chemical compatibility, analytical method requirements, biological workflow needs, sample preparation demands, environmental monitoring conditions and the practical realities of repeat supply.

Donal helps provide that application-aware perspective.
Together with Michael Anderson, Donal co-founded Bishops Scientific UK Limited to bring LabFriend UK’s online laboratory purchasing model to UK customers. His role strengthens LabFriend UK’s ability to support laboratories not only with competitive online access to products, but also with practical scientific knowledge, technical product understanding and customer-focused supply experience.
